1. Baguette- Fendi

It’s not big enough to be a hand bag and it’s certainly not a clutch- it has an adjustable strap! So what is it? The Fendi Baguette! Quite possibly the cutest and flirtiest of the icon bags. However, you will need to get rid of your excess baggage because the Baguette is the perfect size for essentials only: lipstick, cell phone, money. The baguette is a fairly recent addition to Fendi’s bag collection being released in 1997. Its claim to fame came soon after its release when it was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker on HBO’s series Sex and the City, and it has been an object of desire ever since. Fendi has not failed to keep its baguette lovers happy and has produced many variations of the original.
2.Hermes Birkin Bag
Legend has it that in 1984 actress-singer Jane Birkin was sitting next to Hermes president Jean- Louis Dumas and mentioned she was in desperate need of the perfect leather weekend bag and weeks later the Birkin Bag was produced by Hermes especially for her. Indeed, Hermes’ Birkin bag has become the perfect weekend bag, but it has also become the infamous weekend bag. The inside of the bag is lined with goat skin matching the outside color of the bag. The outside of the bag can be made with a variety of leathers and in a wide range of colors; select clients can even place orders with special color and leather requests. However, don’t get your hopes up on getting your paws on one of these bags. It takes weeks just to produce one bag and it can take years before your order is produced. However, despite Hermes’ notoriously slow and selective production, it is rumored that Victoria Beckham has a collection of over 100 Hermes bags- including dozens of Birkins in all colors and sizes! Her most famous Birkin bag is the Himalayan Birkin that comes in crocodile skin, goat skin lining, and the signature Hermes lock paved in 3 karats worth of diamonds. With such extravagance, it is no wonder only three Himalayan Birkin bags have ever been produced.
3.Hermes Kelly Bag
The Kelly bag gained its fame and name in the 1950’s when Princess Grace of Monaco, Grace Kelly, used her crocodile Hermes bag to conceal her unannounced pregnancy from the press. This picture was printed around the world and is responsible for giving the name of this Hermes bag. The Kelly bag is similar in style and is made with the same painstaking precision as its sister Birkin bag, but it is not a sporty and casual hand bag. The Kelly bag is the perfect business dinner bag: formal, structured, elegant and ultimately classic. It takes weeks to produce one bag and is made by one single Hermes artisan from start to finish, definitely not making it the easiest bag to get a hold of. However the list of owners is star studded with historical style icons, such as Grace Kelly, and today’s most famous fashionistas. The Kelly bag was also an absolute favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and today can often be seen on the arm of Victoria Beckham.
4.Chanel 2.55
The story goes that Coco Chanel was fed up having to carry a bag around all the time and wanted to have her hands free, so she took the Chanel handbag and added long thin straps. In 1955 the original bag designed by Coco was revamped and titled “Chanel 2.55.” The most traditional features of this bag are the leather threaded chain link straps, the Chanel quilted leather on the outside, burgundy colored lining, and the double C lock or the “Mademoiselle Lock” on the front flap of the bag. However, now this iconic bag comes in many variations of the original and is a favorite for many celebrities such as Milla Jovovich and Claudia Schiffer.
5. Speedy by Louis Vuitton

The signature LV Speedy comes in monogrammed canvas with leather handles and canvas lining, one zip pocket on the inside and a large zipped opening. Now the bag comes in 4 different sizes from Speedy 25-40 and is available in more colors combinations and materials than you could imagine! The most recent variation to the Speedy bag is in the Stephen Sprouse Line which has become a favorite for super stylish model Agyness Deyn.

6. Lady Dior- Dior
The Lady Dior bag was originally designed in the mid 90’s by then designer Gianfranco Ferre, however it wasn’t until Princess Diana began to wear the Lady Dior handbag that it gained its success and icon status. The design of the bag is a rather simple box like shape with a quilted soft leather exterior, sturdy hand held leather handles and golden hardware with letter charms D, I, O, R dangling from the handle. The simple design makes this bag super classy and elegant, definitely a bag that will never be out of style no matter what year it is. Over the years little has changed about the bag, but it is available in more colors and leather styles. It has become a very popular bag not only among royalty, but also among celebrities and movie stars. Mischa Barton and Michelle Yeoh are just two of many who love their Lady Dior!
7. Jackie- Gucci
The
Jackie bag gained its name in the 1950’s when the ever so chic Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was photographed toting Gucci’s bag on numerous occasions; soon thereafter the bag was aptly named the Jackie. Since its renaming, the bag has enjoyed fame and been a favorite among Gucci’s handbags. This hobo style bag is more than just a classic bag though; its details make it an extremely practical bag for the busy woman. The original Jackie is complete with a leather strap and metal fasten closure, a leather shoulder strap, roomy main compartment, and a Gucci monogrammed exterior with a signature red and green stripe running vertically down the center. However, today the original has been refashioned into the “New Jackie” with a larger size, stylish bamboo details on leather tassels, hand stitching added on the edges, a roomy and slouchy main compartment, and also is available in fresh new colors. The New Jackie bag in an eye popping coral leather is a favorite of actress and “bag lady” Salma Hayek.
8. Motorcycle Bag- Balenciaga
Quite the new comer in terms of icon bags, the Motorcycle Bag was introduced in Balenciaga’s 2001 Spring collection. However, despite its young age it hasn’t taken long for celebrities to catch on to its brilliance! It is crafted with distressed Italian calf leather making it unbelievably soft and supple. There are the perfect size leather handles to go over your wrist or a detachable shoulder strap for convenient over the shoulder toting. Leather laces trail from the front zipper and the side to give it a playful edge and best of all it is the perfect size with an ultra roomy main compartment for all of your necessities. What else do you need for a day bag? No wonder it is difficult to find a celebrity who doesn’t have this icon bag!
9. D-Bag- Tod’s
Tod’s never fails to produce timeless leather goods, so it is no wonder their D-Bag is a staple for bag ladies world wide. The D-Bag acquired its name from its long time fan and lover Princess Diana who was seen carrying her Tod’s bag on countless occasions. The signature plush Tod’s leather with contrast detail stitching makes up the exterior of this structured leather bag. The handles are sturdy dual rolled leather handles that are long enough to be worn over the shoulder but short enough to be carried by hand. The final detail is in the leather draw stings on each side of the bag which are tipped with engraved silver hardware reading “D-Bag.” It is not flashiness or elaborate detailing which has given the D-Bag its reputation; rather it is the simplicity and classic style that has helped it to become a timeless accessory.
Having started in 1846 as a leather goods design house in Madrid, Spain,
Loewe is ancient in fashion years. However, despite its old age the design house has managed to stay relevant, innovative and consistently produce luxurious leather goods that are timeless and classy. Loewe’s first handbag was the Amazona, it is a super clean cut, traditional bag and is 100% luxury. The signature details to the Amazona are the magical logo of four L’s which appears on the side of the bag and the lock and keys attached at the base of the handles. And, of course it is loved for the amazing leather and artisanship that the brand is known for! Naturally now there are many variations to the Amazona in size, leathers, trimmings and colors, but it remains a classic handbag completely deserving of icon status. Because of their superior quality Loewe’s leather goods have always been a favorite among European royalty and their Amazona bag is no exception
